Night Cats Illuminate the University Campus
Just as we did last summer, this year—at the end of August (August 21–31, 2026)—we prepared a little nighttime treat for visitors to the university campus as part of the InterBridge project. This time, cats appeared behind the CXI shop window after dark.
Independent artist Aneta Lišáková, who collaborates with our project, created a collection of paintings and 3D objects entitled Night Cats. And since Aneta really loves cats and has several of her own, it is not difficult to guess where she found her inspiration.
For the paintings and some parts of the objects, she used special Montana NIGHTGLOW sprays whose colours react to UV light. When illuminated with UV lamps, the cat motifs lit up, transforming the CXI window after dark into a slightly mysterious world of cats.
The material design of the 3D cats is also particularly interesting. Their basis is PET spacer, a special spacer textile material provided by our colleagues at Chemnitz University of Technology. Aneta further modified it using metallic sprays and other artistic techniques. Some of the objects were additionally coated with a thin layer of silver or copper created using plasma metal deposition.
These objects clearly demonstrate the principle behind InterBridge: bringing together Czech and German cooperation, transferring materials and technologies from the research environment into creative work, and exploring new artistic possibilities for their use.
If you missed the chance to see the cats around the CXI after dark, there is no need to be disappointed. We have prepared a small photo gallery to capture the atmosphere of the Night Cats. And some of them will appear again later this year – at the beginning of November in Kamenický Šenov, where we are planning our third major group exhibition of the InterBridge project.
So if you didn't meet any Night Cats on the university campus this summer, all is not lost. Come and see them in November!
