Cakes, colours, joy. And maybe a touch of science…

At InterBridge, we usually play with polymers, pigments, fibres, filaments, and other serious things. But this time – slightly off the official track – we tried to see what happens when science, art, and joy come together in the sweetest form. And it was totally worth it!

From our past Bubble Painting workshops at a primary school in Zittau, we had some leftover food colouring. We had used it back then for safety reasons – because when kids are blowing coloured bubbles, we want to avoid any risks… other than a burst of laughter. So, we decided to give the colours one last chance – in a slightly different way.

Our colleague Karolína, who regularly leads our project workshops, has another remarkable talent: she bakes amazing cakes. Truly amazing. And when we say amazing, we mean artistic, colourful, and… delicious. The colours from the workshops came alive again – this time on birthday cakes for a double birthday celebration held in the cheerful Funpark at iQLANDIA in Liberec. Belated happy birthday to Johanka (5) and Eliška (9)!

About fifteen children from Liberec attended the celebration – from various schools and kindergartens, including the university nursery ŠkaTULka. It was one of those moments when everything simply connects beautifully. The science-fun space of iQLANDIA, where the Technical University of Liberec plays an important role, is a place where children are encouraged to think, explore, and create. And we’re happy we could contribute a small piece to this mosaic of joy, flavour, and colour.

You may have already noticed over the past year and a half: at InterBridge, we do have a weakness – we love making people happy. Whether it’s through research, workshops, natural dyes, excursions, talks – or even an unplanned birthday cake. Because when people are happy, they come closer. And when they come closer, bridges are built. And that’s exactly what Interreg is about.

Hana Křížová
