3D Pen in action – a look back at four more creative workshops

Writer: Hana KřížováHana Křížová

After two successful pre-Christmas workshops with a 3D printing pen, we held four more sessions in January and February 2025, this time focusing on making jewelry and other decorative items. The workshops took place on January 15, January 22, February 12, and February 19, and once again, they were attended mainly by ladies from the University of the Third Age (U3A) at TUL. During these sessions, participants mastered the techniques of working with a 3D pen to create earrings, pendants, and other small decorative items.

The workshops took place in a friendly and inspiring atmosphere, encouraging creativity and joy in creation. Considering that most of the participants were using a 3D printing pen for the first time in their lives, their creations were amazing. Unique decorations were produced, some of which could easily be sold professionally. Unfortunately, almost all of the creations were taken home by their makers, leaving us with a challenge of what to exhibit at the end of the year. Fortunately, we documented their work, and a rich photo gallery attached to this article offers a chance to admire and draw inspiration from their ideas.

It is becoming clear that this activity is our most popular and successful project initiative. In our original project proposal, the "Workshops and education" work package was formulated very cautiously, with the expectation that only four workshops would take place over the course of three years. However, we are only about a third of the way through the project, and we have already organized twelve! We, as well as our partners in Chemnitz, are truly pleased with the great interest from participants, which confirms that this is an excellent way to spread knowledge about science in a playful manner while combining creativity with modern technologies.

If you are interested in creating your own original jewelry or decorations, we highly recommend getting a 3D printing pen. A quick online search will reveal a wide range of options, with prices ranging from a few hundred crowns (we wouldn’t recommend those…) to several thousand crowns. The pens we purchased for our workshops are commonly available for around 2000 CZK. So, get inspired by the rich photo gallery attached to this article, create, and bring your ideas to life!
