3D Printing in experimental fashion design by students of FT TUL Design department

How can we connect art with science and push the boundaries of fashion design? Third-year students from the FT TUL Design department took on an exciting challenge this winter semester – incorporating 3D printing into their fashion collections. The theme "3D printing as a fashion experiment" became part of the collaborative project with CXI TUL within our Czech-Saxon project, InterBridge.

A highlight of this semester was the use of 3D printing in selected designs. This innovative element added a new dimension to garments and allowed students to experiment with shapes, structures, and materials. Each student developed their own artistic vision, creating a garment that not only tells a story but also redefines wearable art.

One striking example is the "Lovers" collection by student Ema Stašková. She drew inspiration from personal memories and relationships that shaped her both personally and creatively. The primary material of her collection was old denim – each piece carrying its own history, much like we carry our memories. A distinctive feature of her work was the 3D-printed heart-shaped details, adding a unique character to the designs.

Ema's collection was one of the highlights of the semester evaluation at the Design department, as seen in the attached photos. Her work clearly demonstrates that 3D printing in fashion is not just about technology but also about creating strong visual and emotional impact.

The semester projects reaffirmed that fashion is not only about aesthetics but also about innovation and breaking new ground in the field. The fusion of traditional textile techniques with modern technologies opens up new possibilities for the future of design.

The entire project will culminate in a major fashion show, where all completed collections will be presented. Stay tuned for updates and details about the upcoming event right here on our website!
